Following last year's theme of Home Heart Health. The World Heart Federation continued this year's theme as 'One World, One Home, One Heart'. This year the focus will be on the prevention of CWDs in women and children.
There are some misconceptions that women are less likely to have heart disease than men. But the truth is that women suffer from heart disease as much as men in old age. The World Heart Federation says heart disease is the leading cause of death in women. Killing 1 in 3 and killing one every minute.
Children are also susceptible to heart disease due to various risk factors. Congenital heart disease is on the rise among children in India. Also, diets are high in fat and sugar, tobacco use, and lack of physical activity. And childhood obesity increases the risk of heart disease in children.

Risk factors for heart disease in women
Smoking: Heart problems are more common in women than men due to smoking.
High triglyceride levels: Women suffer from atherosclerosis due to high triglyceride levels.
Diabetes, obesity, and depression:
The three barriers to health, are diabetes, and obesity. And depression is more common in women than men.
Other risks:
Some other risk factors associated with men include high blood pressure. High cholesterol, low HDL cholesterol, joint hyperlipidemia, unhealthy diet, physical inactivity, and stress.
Specific risk factors:
Some risk factors that only affect women are oral contraceptives. Hormone replacement after menopause, and polycystic ovary syndrome. Also, the risk of heart attack is higher among women with each menstrual cycle.
Nonmodifiable risk factors:
Nonmodifiable risk factors for men and women vary by age, sex, and ethnicity.
Some facts about women and heart disease
Women develop heart attacks about 10 years later than men. Due to the protective effect of estrogen. After menopause, when a woman's LDL cholesterol and triglyceride levels rise. If her HDL cholesterol levels begin to fall, the risk of heart attack increases.
Most women do not experience chest pain syndrome while suffering from heart disease.
Death from heart disease among young women is higher than among men of the same age. Despite the narrowing of the arteries, heart attacks, and high blood pressure.
Women who smoke have a higher risk of developing hypertension. In people at high risk, the risk of heart attack is 7 to 20 times greater than in people at optimal risk.
